BILOXI — What a seven day stretch it was for St. Patrick’s Jacob Alexander.

And for his play, the versatile Fighting Irish standout gets this week’s “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” as presented by SouthMiss6 Sports.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

Alexander, a senior infielder/pitcher at St. Patrick, enjoyed one of the most productive three game spans of his career as he guided the Fighting Irish from the end of the regular season into the opening round of the Class 3A South State playoffs.

Against perennial state power Purvis, he came up with two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs in an 18-8 SPHS win to wrap up regular season action.

Then, on Saturday, the Fighting Irish opened the postseason with a 9-7 comeback road win over Enterprise. Alexander had a two-run double in the fifth as SPHS overcame an early 7-0 deficit to pull out the win. He finished with a game-high three hits including two doubles and a game-high three RBI’s.

He followed that up two days later with the same productive worksheet on Monday night, collecting three hits with two doubles and a game-high three RBI’s, as St. Patrick dispatched the Bulldogs 8-6 to complete the sweep.

In that one, Alexander overcame some early game struggles to get the win on the hill with a complete game performance, striking out 10, allowing eight hits and walking four in leading the Fighting Irish into the second round of the Class 3A South State playoffs.
