OCEAN SPRINGS — For the second straight season, Ocean Springs qualified for the second round of the Class 7A South State playoffs.

But unfortunately for the Greyhounds, for the second consecutive season, Brandon awaited the Greyhounds when they got to that point.

The perennial state power Bulldogs made quick work of OSHS, again for the second straight season, sweeping a pair of games over the weekend to end the season for OSHS.

For the second consecutive season. under second-year Greyhound head coach Ryne Long, OSHS falls in the second round. Last year, Brandon went on the win the first-ever Class 7A state championship under the direction of former Vancleave head coach Daniel Best after sweeping the Greyhounds.

“Yeah, they were tough.” Long said of the series. “They played well in all phases of the game, especially offensively. They had a really good plan at the plate and made it tough on us, Coach Best does a great job and they have as good of a chance to be back in Jackson as anybody.”

On Friday night, visiting Brandon gave the Greyhounds an idea of what was to come with a 10-0 shutout of the home team in just five frames.

Brandon got to OSHS ace Jack Jordan early and often, up 2-0 after one inning and adding five more runs in the third to take complete control. Jordan ended up allowing 11 hits and all 10 runs in the roughest outing of his Greyhound career in taking the loss.

Adam Clower had two hits for OSHS.

Tre Adcox and Grady Smith each cracked home runs for the Bulldogs.

Things, believe or not, got even worse for OSHS on the road in Brandon the next night as the Bulldogs ended the season for the Greyhounds with an 18-4 thumping again in just five frames.

Brandon scored 12 unanswered runs in the opening two innings of the contest and never looked back.

A.J. Rossi had a co-game-high three hits, including a pair of doubles for OSHS and he drove in a co-game-high three runs as well.

Tristen Fox took the loss on the hill.

Just like the first game, Brandon had five extra base hits in this win as well including a home run by Jacob Chancelor.

It marked the end of the line for OSHS seniors Jordan, Cannon Hensarling, A.J. Arguello, Labarron Brumfield and Jeremy Korn.

“It’s tough anytime a season comes to an end and the goals these guys set and worked so hard for doesn’t come to fruition, especially for our five seniors.” Long concluded. “They are such good kids, great leaders, and fierce competitors. Those guys have made a lasting impression on the program, and are leaving it much better than they found it. We are blessed to have had the chance to coach them, and I’m so proud of what they were able to accomplish for the OS baseball program.”
