A trio of former “Southern Six” standouts on the prep baseball diamond have found new destinations on the senior college level.

First up, a pair of players from the powerful Pearl River Community College baseball program are on the move after an extremely successful season.

Former Pearl River Central stalwart Caleb Dyess has signed a scholarship with Nicholls State. Dyess made 13 appearances with five starts this season as a sophomore for the Wildcats, finishing with a 2-1 record as he tallied 28 1/3 innings with a 3.81 earned run average. He struck out 27 batters.

As a freshman, Dyess excelled on the mound, recording a 2.44 ERA across 62 2/3 innings pitched with an 8-1 record and one save.

His teammate and fellow mound partner Peyton Lacy is also headed to Nicholls State.

A bounce back from Southern Miss to Poplarville after signing with the Golden Eagles coming out of Pass Christian High, he appeared in 12 games for PRCC this season throwing 12 2/3 innings with a 4.97 ERA.

Lacey struck out 13 batters while walking just four, and posted no decisions. In 2024, he made five pitching appearances for the Golden Eagles.

That duo, along with East Central product Logan Terry who reported signing with the Colonels as well recently, helped PRCC win an MACCC Championship, a Region 23 title and finish as NJCAA World Series Runner-up this year.

Admirals, Rebels and Gators Oh My!

Former Gulfport High All-State performer Ethan Suroweic has found a new home at the University of Florida, according to social media accounts, after spending one season at Ole Miss.

Suroweic, a corner infielder who can also play outfield, played in only 11 games with three starts as a true freshman at Ole Miss, but some expected him to be a valuable piece of next year’s team. Instead he’s joining the Gators after hitting .375 in 16 at-bats with two home runs, two walks and three hit by pitches this season.

According to reports, Suroweic impressed in fall and spring practices but never found a role during the season. He is currently having a tremendous summer in the Northwoods Wood Bat League. He’s hitting a league-best .438 with a 1.357 OPS in 89 at-bats. He also leads the league in slugging and OPS and is second in RBIs.
