LUCEDALE — Lani McDoniel of George County gets the “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” as presented by SouthMiss6 Sports this week.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

The versatile Lady Rebel senior McDoniel has been a stalwart so far this season on the court for the GCHS volleyball squad. She has helped guide the Lady Rebels to six straight wins currently, including the Gold Bracket championship over the weekend at the 2025 “Battle at the Hive” at East Central High School.

Also, GCHS opened Region 3-6A play on the road in Tuesday night with a clean 3-0 sweep of home-standing Hattiesburg. George County sits at 12-6 overall.

McDoniel, an outside hitter, was instrumental in the five straight wins the Lady Rebels ripped off, beginning late Friday night and continuing all day Saturday in Hurley. After falling to Faith Academy of Mobile in game one of the “Battle at the Hive”, GCHS swept five consecutive matches at 2-0 over Mobile St. Luke’s, West Harrison, Pearl River Central, Alma Bryant (Ala.) and St. Patrick to take the tourney title.

McDoniel and her Lady Rebel teammates return home Thursday and remain in region play hosting Jackson Forrest Hill. She is one of about a half-dozen seniors that have been a part of this GCHS program that has advanced to the Class 6A South State championship round the past two seasons but watched their season end at that point. The Lady Rebels have their sights set on yet another deep postseason run this season also.
