BILOXI — Biloxi junior running back Jo Jo Thomas ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t quite enough for the Indians Friday night.
In the first-ever meeting between the two programs on the football field, visiting Holmes County Central nipped the Indians 33-30 at the Biloxi Sports Complex in the season-opener for both teams.
The Jaguars trailed for most of the first three quarters, including at 30-20 in the third period, before taking their first lead in the early stages of the fourth quarter and held on for the win.
It marked the first loss to open a new campaign for BHS in three years, and just the second in the past nine seasons.

Biloxi quarterback Jordan Ramsey put the Indians on the board first with around four minutes to play in the opening period on a 7-yard touchdown run.
Holmes County Central responded immediately just over one minute later as Jags quarterback Davarious Johnson completed a 65-yard scoring strike to Gavin Howard. The point-after failed, leaving the count at 7-6 entering the second stanza.
That quarter turned into a shootout. Biloxi bounced right back as Thomas rolled into the end zone from 6-yards out to make it 14-6 at the 10:06 mark.
Then, Johnson connected with Julius Mathis on a 15-yard touchdown toss and he converted a two-point conversion toss to tie things up at 14-14 just over two minutes later.
But the Indians countered with a 5-yard scoring dash by Thomas to make it 21-14 with five minutes left in the first half to re-take the lead at 21-14.
Johnson responded with a 5-yard touchdown toss to Rashard Campbell with less than :15 seconds on the clock, but a failed two-point conversion left the home team up 21-20.

However, first things first. A short ensuing kickoff allowed BHS to take over at its own 45-yard line with :10 seconds to play. Thomas then ripped off a 44-yard run to the Jags 11-yard line, which resulted in a 28-yard field goal by Jose Martinez to close the half with BHS up 24-20.
The Indians opened the second half with another scoring drive, capped off by a 4-yard scoring run by Thomas. The point-after failed, but Biloxi had its biggest lead of the game at that aforementioned 30-20 with 8:
Unfortunately, though, that would be it for the Indians.
Holmes County Central’s Jaiden Tucker returned a punt 56 Yards for a score just minutes later, and that turned the tide in favor of the Jags and made it 30-27.

Two minutes into the final period, Johnson completed the comeback with a 15-Yard touchdown pass to Campbell to end the scoring.
Biloxi hosts Pascagoula next week.
