BILOXI — The second “Southern Six” Senior Spotlight sponsored by Burnham Drugs of the school year is Jordan Stapleton of West Harrison.

Each week of the school year, we here at SouthMiss6 Sports along with Burnham Drugs will highlight a deserving senior student/athlete in the “Southern Six”.

Stapleton made sure that West Harrison’s first ever outing on the football field as a Class 7A program was a rousing success in a big 34-18 road win over defending Class 4A state champion Poplarille last week.

The senior standout tailback ran just 13 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns, and caught three passes – the entirety of West Harrison’s passing game – for 81 yards and another score.

“He’s special,” said West Harrison head coach Quincy Patrick. “Everything he gets he deserves. He’s earned it. He makes my job and the job of all these coaches a lot easier.”

This comes on top of a junior season in which he established himself as one of the top ball carriers in the state topping the “Southern Six” in rushing last season with an eye-popping 2,003 yards on the ground in just 10 games, for an average of just over 200 yards per contest at almost 12 yards per carry and 23 touchdowns.

While his rushing marks were single season records for the WHHS program, he was also a bit of a threat coming out of the backfield to keep opposing defensive units off balance through the passing game as he accounted for 352 yards in receptions and three more scores giving him 26 total touchdowns last season.

He has received offers from Tulane, New Mexico State, Jackson State and Alcorn State as well as a host of jucos in the state.

Stapleton and his Hurricanes look to start the new season off at 2-0 on the road at Forest Friday night.
