GAUTIER — Gautier has lost three regular season game in its past 16 contests.
But two of those have come to D’Iberville, and the latest on Friday night may have been the most notable of all.
The visiting Warriors crashed the home-opener for the defending Class 5A South State champs 42-17 here at Vaughan-Wallace Stadium. D’Iberville moves to 2-0 on the young campaign, and the Gators drop to 1-1.
Also, the loss snaps a 20-game home win streak for Gautier dating back to a 42-14 loss to Picayune to end the 2021 regular season.

It also marks the second straight 2-0 start for DHS under fourth-year head coach and former Warrior standout player Josh Ladner. Last year, also in the second week of the season, DHS handed Gautier its only regular season loss as the Gators began their march to the only state title game in program history with a 33-12 loss.
Friday night, Warrior quarterback Jordan Walley ran for one touchdown and threw for another to lead the way to the resounding win.
Malakai Knight, Jaylen Johnson and Christian Butler each added a scoring run apiece for DHS as well.

D’Iberville’s defense also came up big on the night. In addition to holding a usually high-powered GHS offense to just two touchdowns, Warrior linebacker Roman Green picked up fumble and raced 73-yards on a scoop and score while DHS defensive back Gregory Boyden picked off a pass and scored on a 48-yard interception return.
D’Iberville place-kicker Melzer Villela went a perfect 6-for-6 on extra point attempts.
For Gautier, Gator quarterback Keon McNeil tossed a pair of touchdowns, a 60-yarder to Kasin Thomas and a 23-yarder to Ashaun Tubbs.
Eric Robinson also booted a 33-yard field goal for GHS.
