ELLISVILLE — George County is off to its second 0-2 start in the past four seasons.

The Rebels can only hope that the current season doesn’t end like that one in 2022 did.

South Jones smacked the visiting Rebels 35-6 Friday night on “The Reservation”. The loss drops GCHS to 0-2, while SJHS is now 2-0.

Junior running back Anquan Jackson had three first-half touchdown runs of 18, 82 and 6 yards that gave the Braves a 21-0 lead at halftime. Anquan’s younger brother, freshman running back Anthony Jackson, had a pair of second-half touchdown runs of 3 and 85 yards as the Braves never let up.

The Rebels got on the scoreboard for the first time this season on a short scoring run by Easton Howell in the waning seconds of the game.

The last time GCHS started off 0-2, the Rebels finished 2-i and missed the state playoffs. But new head coach Kelly Causey’s team has plenty of time to recover this season.
