And then there were five…

After three weeks of play in the new prep football season, only four “Southern Six” squads are still searching for their first wins of the season.

Hancock is the only team in Region 4-6A without a win so far this season. The Hawks are off to an 0-3 start for the first time in 18 years, since 2007. That season was the last of three consecutive win-less seasons when the Hawks went 0-10 following an 0-11 mark in 2006 and 0-8 in a bit of an abbreviated Hurricane Katrina campaign in 2005 as the losing streak reached 29 straight games.

In Region 3-6A, George County is off to an 0-3 start for the second time in four seasons and the first since 2022.

In Region 4-5A, a pair of Jackson County rivals are also still win-less after three weeks of action. Vancleave is off to its first 0-3 start in nine years, since a 1-9 campaign in 2016.

After two weeks on the road, the Bulldogs return home to face undefeated Greene County Friday night.

East Central, also a member of Region 4-5A, is off to an 0-3 start for the second straight season. The Hornets host unbeaten Forrest County AHS Friday night.

Bay High, which competes in Region 8-4A, is also off to an 0-3 start this season. The Tigers have lost seven straight games dating back to mid-season last year and they’ve lost 12 out of their last 13 games dating back to week two of last season.

Bay High is also just 2-16 over its last 18 games. It’s the worst stretch for BHS since it lost 20 straight games from mid-season in 2016-mid-season 2018, which included a 0-10 mark in 2017.

The Tigers are off to an 0-2 start for the first time in seven years, since 2018, when they finished 1-9. Bay high is off this week.

“Super 7” in the “Southern 6”

Every Tuesday through the first week in December, we will publish our “Super 7 in the Southern 6” weekly poll involving all 24 prep football teams in our coverage area.

The weekly poll is the only one in the state that is voted on by a panel of veteran sportswriters, a few selected area coaches and other media members.

This are the week four rankings for 2025.
