CARRIERE — Poplarville snapped Pearl River Central’s three game win streak to start the season Friday night.
The defending Class 4A state champion Hornets rolled into Kenneth Hendrix Stadium here and rolloed out with a convincing win after thumping the home-standing Blue Devils 49-14 in a cross county showdown. Both teams now stand at 3-1 on the season, and Poplarville now has its own three game win streak.
Hornet standout tailback Ty Keys followed up his record-setting performance against Hancock the week before with yet another solid outing, as he picked up 175 yards rushing on 17 carries and he scored a trio of touchdowns in the winning effort.

Poplarville ran for over 400 yards on the ground, as Keys’ fellow backfield mate Remy Naquin ran for 126 yards and two scores as well.
The Hornets wasted no time in taking a quick lead as new Hornet quarterback Trac Smith raced 44-yards untouched less just over two minutes into the game to give PHS a lead it would never relinquish.
On the next Poplarville possession, after the Hornets caused the Blue Devils to punt the first time they had the ball, Keys got into the action with a 6-yard scoring dash to make it 14-0 with 2:46 to play in the first frame.
The Hornets kept things going on their next possession, this time early in the second quarter, as Naquin ran it in from 15-yards out and it was 21-0.

Poplarville would extend its advantage to 35-7 and take complete command before halftime as Keys scored on a 20-yard dash and an 80-yard scoring scamper.
J.T. Graham also added a touchdown for Poplarville.
PRC got 107 yards rushing and both touchdowns from quarterback Titus Feaster. He also completed 16-of-22 pass attempts for 126 yards and an interception.
PRC was off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2012 season.
