Even though there is only a week left in the current Major League Baseball regular season, the 2025 campaign will be one that a former “Southern Six” standout prep baseball standout will never forget.
Former George County stalwart Trevor McDonald is set to get his first-ever start in the big leagues Sunday afternoon when his San Francisco Giants face the home-standing Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
After being called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, McDonald made his 2025 debut later that night and pitched two innings out of the bullpen against the Diamondbacks, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk.
However, he had working a a starter recently in Triple-A prior to his promotion, so switching back to a starter’s role shouldn’t be an issue.

McDonald has spent the entire season in Triple-A, where he owns a 5.37 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 142.1 innings while working primarily as a starter.
The Giants are in the midst of a 13 games in 13 days stretch, and the need for more help on the pitching staff was imperative.
McDonald made his MLB debut in the final game of the 2024 season, coming out of the bullpen throwing three shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Dodgers are trying to extend a four-game home winning streak. The teams meet Sunday for the 13th time this season. The Dodgers are ahead 9-3 in the season series.

The Giants (76-79) are four games behind the New York Mets (80-75) in the National League wild-card race with just seven games remaining
McDonald was taken in the n11th round of the 2019 draft straight out of George County High following a meteoric rise during his senior year with the Rebels.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound McDonald was dominant during his senior year at George County, finishing 8-2 with a 1.78 ERA in 12 games. He struck out 105 and walked 15 in 51 innings with his fastball reaching into the mid 90’s. He originally signed with South Alabama but decided to forego college and sign with the Giants.
