OCEAN SPRINGS — Chalmers Berglind of Ocean Springs gets the “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” as presented by SouthMiss6 Sports this week.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

Berglind, the Greyhounds’ sophomore quarterback, enjoyed the breakout game of his young career Friday night in a big 56-42 road win over perennial state power Picayune.

Berglind was 10-of-13 passing for 326 yards with four touchdowns in the win that moved OSHS to 4-0 on the season.

In 24 previous meetings that span the past 77 years, Ocean Springs had never scored as many as 40 points against Picayune on the football field. However, thanks in large part to Berglind’s play, theGreyhounds had that covered in the first half allone as Ocean Springs scored at will in the first two quarters to take a 42-28 lead at halftime.

In that explosive first half, the Greyhounds got a pair of scoring passes out of the Berglind brothers, as Chalmers hit big brother and OSHS tight end Hayden from 53-yards out and from 17-yards away. Ian Harlan also hauled in an 11-yard touchdown toss from Chalmers Berglind in the second quarter.

Then, on the Maroon Tide’s first drive of the second half Greyhound defender Keagan Lymon fell on a fumble at his own 1-yard line.

Any thoughts Picayune had of a valiant second half comeback were quickly dashed when Berglind found wide out Sharroid Whitehead on a 99-yard toss and run for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 49-28.

This week, OSHS hosts Biloxi to open region 4-7A play. It’s also the Homecoming contest for the Greyhounds
