ST. MARTIN — The battle of unbeaten teams as St. Martin hosts West Harrison Friday night is this week’s is this week’s “Vertical Raise Game of the Week” for SouthMiss6 Sports.

Each week during the prep football season, SouthMiss6 Sports will feature a “GOTW” sponsored by Vertical Raise, the premier online fundraising platform for athletic teams and associated clubs and supporters of all ages.

Just the fifth all-time meeting between the Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes takes place this week between these new league foes as Region 4-7A play begins. Both teams enter the fray a solid 4-0.

St. Martin has won three of the four prior meetings, including hammering West Harrison 63-14 in the last meeting five years ago. The two teams first met in 2009, and the only win for the Hurricanes in the series came the next season at home 27-0.

West Harrison is 4-0 for the first time ever in program history, and St. Martin is 4-0 for the first time since 2019. The Yellow jackets are looking for their first 5-0 start since th 2016 season.

West Harrison moved to 4-0 with a resounding 53-20 win over Laurel last week, a senior standout running back Jordan Stapleton ran for 196 yards with three touchdowns and added a 60-yard reception in the win.

Meanwhile, St. Martin quarterback Seth Crocket completed 22 of 25 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Hancock. He also ran for 81 yards and another score.

And, Yellow Jacket running back Kevin Marshall caught two touchdown passes and returned an interception 27 yards for a score. Marshall also had a big blocked punt that led directly to a rushing score by Crockett as well.
