VANCLEAVE — Home-standing Vancleave clinched home-court advantage in the opening round of the upcoming Class 5A South State prep volleyball playoffs Tuesday night with an exciting 3-2 win over arch-rival East Central.





The decision moved the Lady Bulldogs to 7-2 in the region race and dropped the Lady Hornets to 5-4. Each team finishes up league play on the road Thursday night as Vancleave travels to Waynesboro to face off with Wayne County and East Central heads to Laurel to take on Northeast Jones.
Tuesday’s victory gave VHS a season sweep over its longtime intra-county rival after the Lady Bulldogs swept the Lady Hornets 3-0 three weeks ago.




Purvis, a new member of Region 4-5A, locked up the league title in quick fashion this year and stands 9-0 so far in the region race. The Lady Tornadoes are also 26-4 overall, while Vancleave is 11-5 overall and east Central is 14-14.
There is one more week left in regular season play before the state playoffs begin with all eyes on A.. Wood Coliseum in Clinton on the campus of Mississippi College for the state championships,
