MOSS POINT — Current Vancleave head football coach Kevin Fant was once an All-State quarterback at Moss Point High and he led the Tigers to two state championships.
Friday night, in his latest return to Dantzler Stadium, Fant and his Bulldogs almost set another pair of records on the playing fields of his glory days.
Vancleave embarrassed the home-standing Tigers to tune of a 69-18 pounding Friday night. the win was the second straight for Fant’s crew after opening the season with three straight losses. While VHS is 2-3, Moss Point drops to 1-4 under new head coach Derrick Jenkins.

The point total amassed by Vancleave was one point short of the single game record ever allowed by once mighty Moss Point, only behind a 2019 70-35 loss to East Central. Also, the 69 points scored by the Bulldogs were just two points short of setting a single game scoring record, only behind the 71 points scored in a 71-34 win over South Jones five years ago.
Vancleave quarterback Wyatt Adams was four-of-five passing for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and Bulldog tailback Kyle Capers ran roughshod over the hapless Tiger defenders for 212 yards on 16 carries and four scores. His backfield mate Aiden Rivers also scored three times on the ground.
The Bulldogs, almost inexplicably, scored 42 points in the FIRST QUARTER alone to take a quick and commanding lead. It marked the most points ever allowed in a single quarter of play in the 100-year history of MPHS football.
But, believe it or not, the game was just 7-6 early in the contest.
Capers would shift out of the backfield wide left and take the set pass a few inches behind the line of scrimmage for a 43 yard run and score to get things rolling..

Just a few minutes later Moss Point quarterback Keelan Harper would find Jayden Brown for a 66-yard scoring connection. However, the point-after attempt was no good, creating a harbinger of things to come for the Tigers.
Ten quick seconds later, Vancleave would answer right back and Aiden Hall would take the jet sweep pop pass 58 yards for the score from Adams. On Vancleave’s next possession, Adams would find tight end Kale Fant on a 14-yard touchdown toss to make it 21-6
It was Capers’ turn again next time as he would shift to Wildcat and take it in from 6-yards out. Vancleave would yet again score 19 seconds later after Vancleave’s LB Bradyn Woodworth hauled in an interception returned to the five yard line.

Rivers would cover that distance to make it 35-6, and the route was on.
After a 32-yard scoring run by Moss Point’s Amarion Scott made it 35-12, Capers would counter with a 4-yard scoring run to make it 42-12 entering the second quarter and basically seal the deal.
Jordan Raynor would convert eight extra points for VHS.
