ST. MARTIN — In a battle of unbeatens to open Region 4-7A play, West Harrison was still standing when the final horn sounded.
The visiting Hurricanes blew into Joe Barlow Field and escaped with an exciting 26-21 win Friday night over St. Martin. West Harrison is now 5-0 for the first time ever on the football field in program history, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 4-1.
“We’re blessed,” Hurricane head coach Quincy Patrick, now in his eighth season, said. “We’ve got great kids and a great coaching staff, and they deserve everything. It’s nothing that coach Patrick did, these kids deserve everything.”

With the game knotted up at 14-14 in the fourth frame, St. Martin took a 21-14 lead when Yellow Jacket standout sophomore signal-caller Seth Crockett dove over from a yard out with 9:03 to play.
But that would prove to be all the time West Harrison would need, as it closed the game with 12 unanswered points thanks to a pair of scoring passes from quarterback De’Mario Davies to running back Jordan Stapleton to seal the come-from-behind win.
First, the Hurricanes immediately responded on their ensuing possession when Davies found Stapleton on a 16-yard touchdown toss to make it 21-20 after the extra point missed.
Then, late in the game, Davies again hit Stapleton from 30-yards out for the game-winning score to put WHHS up 26-21.

The two teams stood toe-to-toe like a pair of heavyweight boxing contenders throughout the first three quarters, as West Harrison jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to a 45-yard scoring scamper from Stapleton and a 21-yard touchdown dash from Austin McInnis.
But the Yellow Jackets bounced back thanks to a 10-yard scoring pass from Crockett to Kevin Marshall and a 20-yard touchdown toss to Dawsey Sullivan to tie the game up at 14-14 with four minutes to play in the third frame setting up the climactic ending.
