For the first time in at least 60 years, all three Hancock County prep football squads have a combined one win entering the month of October.

Amongst the trio of St. Stanislaus, Bay High and Hancock, SSC has the only win so far this season as the teams stand a combined 1-12 so far.

And, fittingly, that one Rock-A-Chaw win was over county rival Bay High in the annual “Battle for the Crab Trap”.

However, something has two give for the Hawks or Tigers this week as Bay High hosts Hancock for Homecoming at McCulloch Stadium Friday night. So, its a big game for these two Hancock County rivals as both come in a combined 0-8 on the season and are each looking for their first wins under new head coaches.

The Tigers, under the direction of Katlan French, are 0-4 and coming off of a 28-7 road loss in Hattiesburg to Presbyterian Christian last week. Meanwhile the Hawks were licking their wounds on an open date after losing four straight times to open the season under the guidance of Mikey King.

This is the first meeting between these two teams in nine years, since a 49-0 Hancock win in 2016. This marks the 55th meeting all-time between the two teams on the football field, and Bay leads the all-time series that dates back to 1959 34-20.

But the Hawks have won four in a row dating back to 2013.

However, the rough start on the football field heading into the match-up on Friday night when a 1-4 St. Stanislaus team host Stone high is almost unprecedented and something not seen in at least 60 years.

Twenty years ago, in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, SSC won its first game of the year but then canceled the remainder of the season and Hancock went winless at 0-8. But Bay High went 4-4, including a win in August and a win in September.

In 1997, entering October, both SSC and Bay High were 0-5 but the Hawks were 5-0.

In 1984, Hancock North Central was 0-4 entering October and Bay High was just 1-3 but the Rocks were 3-1.

In 1980, Bay High and HHS were both 1-3 but SSC was 3-1 entering October.

The trio of teams were a combined 3-12 entering October in 1974.

In 1966, SSC and Hancock were a combined 0-8 heading into October but Bay High was 3-2.
