And then there was one…

And one more. Well, kind of.

After six weeks of play in the 2025 prep football season, only one “Southern Six” squad is still left standing as the lone unbeaten team and only one is still in search of its first win of the season as well.

D’Iberville is 6-0 for the first time in five years.

The Warriors knocked off home-standing West Harrison in convincing fashion 25-7 in a battle of unbeaten Harrison County neighbors Friday night in what turned out to be a fight for sole possession of first place in Region 4-7A. D’Iberville is not only 6-0 overall for the first time since 2020, but also unbeaten at 2-0 in league play as well for the first time in five years.

D’Iberville, which sits in sole possession of first place in Region 4-7A, puts that lofty status on the line this week as the Warriors welcome in Ocean Springs.

Meanwhile, Bay High remains the only team in our coverage footprint without a win so far this season. The Tigers dropped to 0-5 after a 48-6 thumping at the hands of visiting Hancock last week as Bay High celebrated Homecoming.

The Tigers have lost nine straight games dating back to mid-season last year and they’ve lost 14 out of their last 15 games dating back to week two of last season.

Bay High is also just 2-18 over its last 20 games. It’s the worst stretch for BHS since it lost 20 straight games from mid-season in 2016-mid-season 2018, which included a 0-10 mark in 2017.

The Tigers are off to an 0-5 start for the first time in seven years, since 2018, when they finished 1-9.

However, a win on the road in Region 8-4A play this week over Moss Point will in all likelihood secure a berth in the upcoming Class 4A South State playoffs for Bay High.

Thursday Night Fun

Action in week seven gets off to a bit on an earlier start this week when West Harrison heads to Lyman to take on Harrison Central in a Region 4-7A encounter at Earl Phillips Stadium.

“Super 7” in the “Southern 6”

Every Tuesday through the first week in December, we will publish our “Super 7 in the Southern 6” weekly poll involving all 24 prep football teams in our coverage area.

The weekly poll is the only one in the state that is voted on by a panel of veteran sportswriters, a few selected area coaches and other media members.
