OCEAN SPRINGS — Three of the four Region 4-7A teams that qualified for the Class 7A South State playoffs are still alive after picking up wins in the opening round.
Both Ocean Springs and Gulfport, the top two seeds in the region, swept matches at home Tuesday night as the Lady Greyhounds knocked off Petal and the Lady Admirals clipped Northwest Rankin.

Ocean Springs, the region champs, swept the Lady Panthers in commanding fashion 25-11, 25-18, 25-12 and moved to an impressive 37-5 overall on the season. The Lady Greyhounds now host Region 4-7A foe Harrison Central Thursday night in the Class 7A South State semifinals Thursday night at 6 p.m.
That’s because HCHS got the good times rolling for the league Monday night with a sweep on the road over Oak Grove 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 to move on.

Also on Tuesday night, home-standing Gulfport, the second seed in the region, dispatched NWR 25-19, 25-22, 25-17. The Lady Admirals now travel to perennial state power Brandon Thursday night.
The survivor of the OSHS-HCHS match and the Brandon-Gulfport match meet Monday night for the Class 7A South State championship.
