LUCEDALE — A quartet of “Southern Six” squads rolled into the second round of the Class 6A South State playoffs with wins on Tuesday night.
And that makes for an all “Southern Six” affair in the Class 6A South State semifinals on Thursday, and also ensures that the South representative in the state championship match next week will be a “Southern Six” team as well.

George County knocked off visiting Picayue in impressive fashion in a 3-0 sweep 25-12, 25-13 and 25-10. The Lady Rebels, the top seed from Region 3-6A, will now host Long Beach on Thursday night. George County stands 28-12 overall.
That’s because the Lady Bearcats swept visiting Hattiesburg 3-0 Tuesday night also. Long Beach is the second seed out of Region 4-6A and the Lady Tigers the third seed out of Region 3-6A.
Also, Region 4-6A top seed Hancock, the defending Class 6A South State champion, thumped visiting Jackson Jim Hill 3-0 (25-3, 25-11, 25-6) on Tuesday night to move on. The Lady Hawks, now 27-8 overall, will host Gautier Thursday night.

That’s because the Lady Gators were the only road team to pull out a win in Class 6A South in the opening round with a bit of a surprising 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17) sweep over West Jones in Soso. Gautier is the third seed from Region 4-6A and WJHS was the second seed from Region 3-6A.
