LYMAN — West Harrison has more than one productive senior running back in its offensive backfield this season.
And home-standing Harrison Central found that out firsthand Thursday night.
Hurricane back Sean Fairley, a 5-foot-11, 235-pound bowling ball of a runner, crashed his way to a career-high 249 yards on 29 carries and all three touchdowns as WHHS shut out the Red Rebels 18-0 in Region 4-7A action.
The win gave the Hurricanes a significant push towards the first-ever state playoff berth in program history, as they moved to 2-1 in the region race and 6-1 overall under veteran head coach Quincy Patrick. Meanwhile, the loss almost assures that HCHS will miss the Class 7A South State playoffs for the second straight season under second year head coach Nekemia Rich as the Red Rebels fall to 0-3 in league play.

Fairley broke a scoreless tie with just over two minutes left in the first half with a 7-yard scoring dash to make it 6-0 at halftime.
He then added a 9-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the second half for the Hurricanes to double the advantage up to 12-0.
Harrison Central’s only significant scoring chance in the game came late in the third frame, but Jazear Carter and the WHHS defense turned Red Rebel wide out Ke’Adrian Brown away at the goal line on a reverse on a fourth-and-goal situation to keep the shutout intact.
Fairley then sealed the deal as the fourth period unfolded with an 8-yard scoring plunge to end the scoring.

Fairley took up most of the slack left by Hurricane senior standout running back Jordan Stapleton, who came into the game averaging almost 170 yards a game rushing with 17 total touchdowns combined rushing and receiving.
But Stapleton missed most of the game with an injury, and Fairley dominated. Hurricane running back Julian Chong also added 188 yards on 17 carries as WHHS ran for 435 yards in the win.
Harrison Central, which dropped to 1-5 overall, did get 156 yards passing from quarterback Caleb Russell in the contest while brown had 71 yards in receptions.
