MOSS POINT — Homestanding Moss Point in all likelihood assured itself of a playoff berth Friday night.
The Tigers held off a late rally by Bay High to hold on for a close 14-13 win in Region 8-4A action. The win moves MPHS to just 2-5 overall, but much more importantly 1-1 in the region race. Bay High falls to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.
After trailing 7-0 late in the first quarter, Moss Point bounced back to take a 14-7 halftime lead thanks to a touchdown on offense as well as one on defense.

Moss Point’s Jayden Brown raced 67-yards on a scoring run early in the second period to tie the game up after an extra point by Amarion Scott at 7-7.
Then, the MPHS defense provided the go-ahead score when defensive end Cedric McCrory picked up a fumble and sprinted 51-yards with a scoop and scored to give Moss Point that halftime 14-7 advantage.
Marcus Boyd provided the all-important extra point for MPHS.
Bay High’s Que Victor gave his team that early 7-0 lead when he plunged into the end zone from 5-yards out at the 3:50 mark of the opening quarter.

But that would be all the points BHS could manage until late in the game, when wide out Brennan Bilich took a throw from quarterback Cameron Garcia on a fourth-and-goal play from the MPHS 6-yard line and hit Landen Evans in the back of the end zone for a score.
However, as Bilich lined up to kick the potential game-tying extra point the snap was botched and he was stopped short of the goal line after grabbing the ball.
It was the first region win for Moss Point in almost two years, and now MPHS is within reach of its first Class 4A South State playoff berth since 2022.
