GULFPORT — Gulfport’s offensive outburst of late continued Friday night.

The Admirals sailed into “The Tropics” and whipped West Harrison 42-14 in a key Region 4-7A battle. It marked the fourth straight win for GHS, as well as the fourth consecutive outing that Gulfport has scored at least 40 points as the Admirals move to 5-2 overall and remain atop the region race at 3-0.

Admiral offensive catalyst Cooper Crosby and Parker Nettles accounted for three touchdowns apiece in the winning effort.

The two teams were knotted up at 14-14 mid-way through the second period, but Gulfport broke open the deadlock with 28 straight unanswered points to seal the deal.

Gulfport took the lead for good at 21-14 on a 28-yard scoring strike from quarterback Nettles to wide out Camden Morgan with 1:25 left in the first half to make it 21-14 at halftime.

The Admirals then carried that momentum over into the second half, and dominated the third quarter with three more touchdowns in the next 13 minutes to take command.

Nettles capped off the first Admiral drive of the new half with a 12-yard swing pass to Amjai Frederic and suddenly the visitors advantage doubled up at 28-14.

The next time GHS got the ball, Admiral senior standout running back Crosby ran 7-yardss for a score and the lead was 35-14 at the five minute mark of the third frame.

On the first play of the fourth period, Nettles hit tight end Cooper Gouin on a 9-yard touchdown toss to complete the scoring.

The teams reached that 14-14 first half tie thanks to a pair of scoring runs by Crosby and two touchdowns by West Harrison running back Jordan Stapleton, one on the ground and another on a scoring catch.

West Harrison drops to 2-2 in the region race with the loss and 6-2 overall.
