VANCLEAVE — A key Region 4-5A game takes place in Vancleave this week as the Bulldogs host Stone.
The Tomcats come into Jackson County this week in sole possession for the top spot in Region 4-5A. Vancleave could have been right there as well, but the Bulldogs went on the road to Waynesboro last week and laid a big egg in a 41-30 loss to Wayne County.
Stone is 2-0 after a 26-0 shutout at home in Perkinston at A.L. May Stadium on the campus of Mississippi Coast Community College over new region foe Purvis last week. The Bulldogs are 1-1 as region play hits the homestretch Friday night.

Last week, in the loss to Wayne County, War Eagles running back Steven Morgan ran roughshod over the Bulldogs in a career-high outing as he carried the ball 15 times for 243 yards and scored five touchdowns as well as hauling in two catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.
That news probably was probably well received in Wiggins, especially to Stone sophomore running back Ayden Green.
Green has run for 861 yards and eight scores so far this season, and that’s an average of almost 125 yards on the ground per game. Last week, Tomcat quarterback Zander Howard threw for one score and also added 85 yards rushing in the win over the Tornadoes

.Vancleave counters with senior standout running back Kyle Capers, who ran for three touchdowns last week. For the season, the versatile multi-sport Bulldog eclipsed the magical 1,000 yard rushing mark last week as well with 89 yards and he carries 1,089 yards total on the ground into this week with 18 touchdowns.
Stone is 4-3 overall, and Vancleave 3-4. The Bulldogs have won two straight over Stone and three out-of-the-past four games as well, but Stone leads the all-time series 16-0 that dates back 50 years to 1975.
