No matter what happens Thursday night, the season will come to an end for Bay High Thursday night.

And, again, no matter the outcome when the Tigers host longtime rival Pass Christian at McCulloch Stadium, it won’t be a season to remember for the home team.

Bay High will be trying to avoid an 0-9 season with an upset of the visiting and Region 8-4A champ Pirates. A win by the Tigers will help Bay High dodge its first win-less season since 2017, when it finished 0-10.

The Tigers, under the direction of first-year head coach Katlan French sit 0-8 and have lost 1 straight game dating back to last season. Another loss this week woud mark the third win-less campaign in the past 24 seasons for BHS, whch also went 0-10 in 2002.

The longest losing streak in program history reached 20 games, that dated from mid-season 2016 through mid-season 2018 and included that last win-less season for the Tigers in 2017.

Pass Christian is looking for its fourth straight win over the Tigers in this series that dates back to 91 years, to 1934. Bay High leads the all-time series 41-29-2, but PCHS is 7-3 over the past decade.

Ironically enough, it will be an historic end to the regular season for the Pirates as well, as PCHS has wrapped up its first-ever region title since a state-wide playoff system was implemented before the 1981 season.

The weekly poll is the only one in the state that is voted on by a panel of veteran sportswriters, a few selected area coaches and other media members.
