While one “Southern Six” squad in Region 4-5A has secured the league title, the other two in the loop are still clinging to their playoff hopes as the regular season concludes.

Stone has secured the top seed and homefeld advantage in the opening round of the Class 6A South State playoffs. Also, Wayne County has sealed up the second seed. All four of the other region members are still alive also.

However, both East Central and Vancleave are still alive in the chase for a playoff bid, and if all falls right both the Hornets and the Bulldogs could find their way into the postseason for the first time since 2022.

Stone hosts East Central, Vancleave travels to Purvis and Northeast Jones heads to Wayne County Thursday night.

Here are some possible scenarios that may, or may not be, correct:

  • If East Central beats Stone and both Northeast Jones and Vancleave win, then East Central is the 3 seed and Vancleave the 4 seed.
  • If Wayne County, East Central, and Vancleave all win, then East Central is the 3 seed, and Vancleave the 4 seed.
  • If Purvis beats Vancleave, Wayne County beats Northeast Jones, and Stone beats East Central on Thursday, then Purvis is the 3 seed and Northeast Jones the 4 seed.
  • If Vancleave beats Purvis and both Stone and Wayne County win, then Vancleave is the 3 seed and Purvis the 4 seed.
  • If Northeast Jones beats Wayne County and East Central beats Stone and Purvis wins, then Purvis is the 3 seed and Northeast Jones the 4 seed.
