ST. MARTIN — There was still some mystery remaining in the final league standings as Ocean Springs traveled across the short bridge to face St. Martin Friday night in the Region 4-7A regular season finale for both teams.
However, the Greyhounds quickly answered any further questions to end the season for the Yellow Jackets.
Ocean Springs beat it’s neighborhood rival for the eighth straight time with an easy 49-21 destruction of SMHS Thursday night at Joe Barlow Stadium. The win moves OSHS to an impressive 9-1 as the Greyhounds prepare to host perennial nemesis Brandon in the opening round of the Class 7A South State playoffs next week.

The Greyhounds, which have now won 19 of the last 20 games against SMHS, finished as the second seed in the region race at 4-1 behind Gulfport. And while St. Martin ends up at 6-4 overall for its first winning season in six years, the Yellow Jackets end region play at 2-4 in the region race and will miss the postseason for the seventh straight season.

St. Martin needed just a win to qualify for the playoffs.
Greyhound sophomore quarterback Chalmers Berglind went 10-of-13 for 176 yards and four touchdowns through the air to lead the way for OSHS in the winning effort.

Whitehead, Ian Harlan, Hayden Berglind and Jeremiah Golemon all hauled in a scoring strike each from Chalmers Berglind in the decisive first half as the visitors jumped out to a commanding 42-7 lead at halftime and never looked back.
St. Martin sophomore Dawsen Sullivan ran for one touchdown and threw for another in the losing effort.
