Both George County and Moss Point suffered losses on the road Friday night.
The difference is, the Rebels will play at least one more game while the Tigers won’t.
Moss point fell to Columbia 49-0 to open the Class 4A South State playoffs Friday night. The Wildcats moved to a perfect 11-0 with the win, while the Tigers end the first-season under new head coach Derrick Jenkins at 2-8.
Columbia running back Tra Lewis scored three first half touchdowns, including two in the first five minutes of the game, to give the home team a quick and commanding 20-0 lead entering the second stanza and the Wildcats never looked back.

In other postseason action, Franklin County thumped visiting St. Patrick 42-6 in the opening round of the Class 3A South state playoffs. The Fighting Irish finish the season at 3-7, but qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in five years.

Meanwhile, in Jackson, George County fell to homestanding Forrest Hill at South Jackson Field 32-25 in the Region 3-6A regular season finale for both teams.
The decision leaves the Rebels an Patriots, along with Jackson Jim Hill, all knotted up at the bottom of the region race each with a 1-4 record. However, thanks to George County’s 30-6 win over Hill several weeks back, the Rebels win the tie-breaker and get the fourth and final seed for postseason purposes in Region 3-6A.
George County, also under the direction of a first-year head coach in Kelly Causey, heads to Picayune next week to open the Class 6A South State playoffs. It’ll will mark the second straight season that the Rebels head to Lee-Triplett Stadium to face the home-standing Maroon Tide, and will be a rematch from the Class 6A South State semifinals last season when Picayune beat GCHS 63-40 in Deuce Knight’s last high school game.
The Rebels are 3-7 overall on the season.
