OCEAN SPRINGS — The Picayune girls are off to a solid start on the new prep basketball campaign.
The Lady Tide moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 49-34 win over D’Iberville Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Ocean Springs Invitational at Hubbard Gym. It was the first loss for the Lady Warriors, who drop to 2-1 with the defeat.
Rheyn Goss dropped in a game-high 21 points for Picayune in the winning effort. She tallied 12 points in a decisive second quarter as the Lady Tide outscored DHS 19-2 to transform a slight 11-7 advantage after one quarter into a commanding 30-9 lead heading into halftime.





Picayune then cruised to the win in the second half, despite a pair of 3-pointers in the third frame from D’Iberville’s Na’Kia Dickson.
Both Laikyn Moore and Devin Adkins each chipped in eight points apiece to the winning Lady Tide effort.
Jaymie Guice led DHS with eight points as well.
For Picayune, Moore got the season off to a big start with an excellent effort in the first game of the year last week when she recorded a double-double with 22 points and 20 rebounds in a 61-38 thrashing of Lumberton. She also had six steals, while Goss tallied 18 points and five steals and Madilyn Plummer added 10 points.





The Lady Tide followed that up with another impressive win, 63-28 over Forrest County AHS Friday night.
Goss had a game-high 19 points in that one, while Adkins and Araybia Magee had 10 points apiece. Moore just missed her second double-double, with nine points and 10 rebounds and she dished out six assists as well.
For D’Iberville, Guice had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards in a close 39-36 season-opening win over St. Patrick last week. Jarrica Reed chipped in seven points and nine rebounds to the winning effort, while Amayah Hill also had seven points.
Alex Patino poured in a game-high 24 points for SPHS.
