It was go big or go home for the 12 “Southern Six” prep football still alive in the state playoffs Friday night.
And some went big and advanced and some others are headed home.
In Class 7A, Gulfport thumped Northwest Rankin 45-7 while Petal took down D’iberville 14-3. Also, Brandon continued its dominance over Ocean Springs 13-10 and Oak Grove pounded Biloxi 52-20.
That results in Gulfport hosting Petal next week and Oak Grove hosting Brandon.

It marked the third time in four years that Brandon eliminated OSHS from the state playoffs with a win in Greyhound Stadium. Region 3 goes 3-1 over Region 4 again this season.
It was Gulfport’s first playoff win in six years.
In Class 6A, Picayune destroyed George County 55-7 and Hancock upset West Jones 21-14. Also, Pascagoula beat Terry 41-7 and Hattiesburg whipped PRC 42-0.

It was the first ever road playoff win in program history for the Hawks.
That results in Picayune hosting Hancock next week and Pascagoula heading to Hattiesburg.
In Class 5A, Stone beat Sumrall 35-14.

That results in Stone hosting Laurel next week and Wayne County heading to Brookhaven. Laurel beat Purvis 39-3 and Brookhaven beat Northeast Jones 55-6. Wayne County beat South Jones 35-10.

In Class 4A, Pass Christian thumped Morton 49-22 and Poplarville beat Forest 43-34.
That results in Pass Christian traveling to Columbia next week and Poplarville heading to McComb. McComb beat Leake Central 41-40 and Columbia nipped Newton County 27-22.
This marks just the third time in program history that the Pirates have advance to the third round of the state playoffs.
