The Moss Point girls and St. Stanislaus were the early winners in prep basketball Thanksgiving week holiday tournaments Monday afternoon.
In St. Martin, the Lady Tigers bounced by Presbyterian Christian 40-30 in the annual Dina Holland Thanksgiving Invitational.
Moss Point got a very balanced scoring attack in the win, led by Zaria Nettles’ 12 points as well as eight points apiece from Kirsten Bailey, Trinity Magee and Landyn Miller.
The win was the first of the new season for the Lady Tigers, as they moved to 1-5 overall.
Moss Point was coming off an 18-17 loss to visiting Ocean Springs late last week. Nettles had eight points in that game and Kamarrah Jefferson led the Lady Greyhounds with six points.
The Lady Tigers will play in the championship game at St. Martin High Tuesday night.



Meanwhile, in Mandeville, La., Monday afternoon, St. Stanislaus knocked off Pearl River (La.) High 56-39 at the Lakeshore Thanksgiving Tournament.
Rock point guard Rafael Cohen tallied a game-high 22 points to pace SSC, while big man Max Baria chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds to the winning effort. Alan Giliam added 9 points for the Rocks.
The win kept SSC unbeaten on the young campaign at 5-0. Tip-off Tuesday is at 4:30 against Fontainebleau High School back in the same event.
