One of the smallest schools in the state is making some big waves on the basketball courts in South Mississippi over the two weeks.

Class 1A Resurrection lost a close 64-61 decision to Class 7A D’Iberville on Tuesday before bouncing back to clip Class 6A foe Long Beach by double digits 67-57 Saturday morning.

These results come on the heels of yet another win over a much larger opponent two weeks ago when the Eagles knocked off Class 6A Hattiesburg 67-55.

On Saturday, both Simeon Ballard and Keyshawn Nesbitt talllied a co-game-high 20 points apiece to pace RCS to the 10-point win over the Bearcats. Denzel Eaton chipped in 12 points to the winning effort and Tyrese Ricardo added 10 points giving RCS four players in double digits.

The Eagles are now 5-3 overall on the season, with wins over Class 5A and Class 6A foes as well as that close loss to the Warriors earlier the week.

In that game, D’Iberville got 17 points from big man Jeremiah Huntley as well as 17 points from Stephon Suszezyk, as well as 14 points from Landon Nichols and eight points from Jaylen Johnson.

The Warriors were set to face host Meridian in the annual Wildcat Classic Tournament Saturday night.

Resurrection countered with a co-game-high 18 points apiece from both Eaton and Nesbitt, while Ricardo had 11 points for the Eagles. Ricardo recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, and Ballard pulled down 10 boards also. Nesbitt dished out five assists.

In the win over Hattiesburg, which was one of the biggest victories in the history of the program, Gian Vera had a game-high 24 points and both Ballard and Nesbitt chipped in 13 apiece. Ballard had eight rebounds and Nesbitt seven boards.

Vera has missed the past couple of games with an injury.

Next up for RSC is a game on the road at St. Patrick Tuesday.
