A half-dozen “Southern Six” prep football products still have a shot to win a National Championship this season.
When the 12-team field for the College Football Playoffs was announced recently, Ole Miss, Alabama and Tulane all were selected.
After winning the American Conference Championship for the second time in four seasons, the Green Wave (11-2) is playoff bound for the first time in school history as the program is seeded No. 11 and will faceoff with No. 6 seed Ole Miss (11-1) in Oxford, Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in a game that will will feature four former Jackson County prep products and be shown on TNT.

Ole Miss and Tulane met earlier this season with the Rebels earning the 45-10 victory on Sept. 20.

No. 9 Alabama (10-3) at No. 8 Oklahoma (10-2) – Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. (ESPN)

Ole Miss features four “Southern Six” products, in Pascagoula’s Jeffrey Rush (defensive end), Moss Point’s Jamarious Brown (Defensive tackle), Harrison Central’s Raymond Collins (linebacker) and Dillion Alfred (wide out) who started out at Gautier but finished his final two years of high school ball in Alabama.
Tulane reserve offensive lineman Tristen Fortenberry is also a former Pascagoula Panther.
And, when Alabama faces Oklahoma for the second time this season and third time in 15 months, former Ocean Springs standout Bray Hubbard will be roaming the Crimson Tide secondary from his safety spot.
