ST. MARTIN — It was all Biloxi in a big early season Region 4-7A girls prep basketball showdown Tuesday night.

The Lady Indians marched into St. Martin and completely dismantled the home-standing Lady Yellow Jackets 50-14 in the league opener for both teams. The win pushes Biloxi to 9-1 overall, while St. Martin falls to 7-2 on the season.

Biloxi’s effective trio of center Zaniya Johnson, guard Jayla Carriere and forward Aubrey Madden combined for 40 of the 50 Lady Indians point in the impressive win. The visitors recorded a first quarter shutout at 14-0 to take a quick and commanding lead, as Madden and point guard Na’Kenya Terry put in 14 points apiece and BHS scored as many points in the opening frame as the home team would in the entire game.

Johnson pushed in five points in the second stanza and Carriere added seven points thanks to a pair of 3-pointers in the third period and the Lady Indians cruised to the win.

Johnson, Biloxi’s Prep All-American 6-foot-5 center, recorded game-high totals in both points with 17 and rebounds with 11 to pace the winning effort, while Carriere chipped in 14 points thanks in part to a trio of treys. Madden added nine points and 10 boards as well, just missing out on a double-double of her own.

Kaleah Lowery returned from a recent injury to lead the Lady Yellow Jackets with eight points in the loss.
