GULFPORT — In a huge early showdown in Region 4-7A girls action Friday night, powerful Biloxi handed home-standing West Harrison its first loss of the season.
The Lady Indians thumped the Lady ‘Canes 47-22 to move overall and to 2-0 so far in the region race, while West Harrison falls to 1-1 in league play and 10-1 overall.

Biloxi junior 6-foot-5 Prep All-American center Zaniya Johnson was dominant all night, as she posted a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, thanks to going 8-for-8 from the field and then making 6-of-7 shots from the free throw line.
Shooting guard Jayla Carriere chipped in nine points for Biloxi to the winning cause, and she also added four assists. Aubrey Madden pulled down eight boards for the Lady Indians also.
Jazz Craighead had eight points to led the Lady ‘Canes, while Sydnei Barber had seven points for WHHS.

Biloxi is back on the court again Monday night in region action hosting D’Iberville.
The Lady Warriors are 0-2 in the region ace after a 47-27 loss to Ocean Springs Friday night as well as a 45-27 loss to Gulfport earlier last week.

Ocean Springs hosts Gulfport in a key Region 4-7A affair Tuesday night also. The Lady Greyhounds and the Lady Admirals are each off to 1-1 starts in league action.
West Harrison is on the road all week, stepping outside of league play Tuesday night with a trip to Bay High then two days later facing home-standing St. Martin in yet another big early Region 4-7A match-up.
