BAY ST. LOUIS — Several “Southern Six” boys basketball squads saw some success in Saturday’s annual “War on the Shore” here at St. Stanislaus High School.
Both Harrison Central and the host Rock-A-Chaws each picked up wins in the yearly affair, which this year featured four games all in the boys’ category. Ocean Springs, Biloxi and Pass Christian all came up short.
In the final game of the day, home-standing SSC notched perhaps the biggest win of the day, nipping fellow “Southern Six” foe Biloxi 39-36. It marked the first win over the Indians for the Rocks in 14 years, since the 2011 season.

The Indians controlled much of the first half, thanks in large part to 11 second quarter points from Carnellus Lenard, to take a 23-15 lead into halftime.
But six points from SSC senior Dandy Dozen center Max Baria and five points from his front court mate Jason Forte turned the tide in the third frame for the Rocks, who went on to out-score BHS 17-7 in that period and take a slight 32-30 lead into the final quarter.
The SSC defense remained solid down the stretch, and Baria dropped in two more baskets while point guard Rafael Cohen dropped in a key late free throw as the Rocks escaped with the win.
Baria paced the Rocks with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Cohen chipped in nine points and Forte added seven points to the winning effort.

St. Stanislaus is now 12-0 this season and off to its best start since before Hurricane Katrina leveled Bay St. Louis.
Biloxi got a game-high 20 points from Lenard. It marked the second close loss for the Indians in less than 24 hours after they fell to West Harrison in Region 4-7A play 47-42 Friday night on the road.
In other action, Harrison Central beat Oak Forrest (La.) Academy in the third game of the day 59-44.
Red Rebel center Jasen Pace registered a double-double in the win with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while a quintet of HCHS players added eight points apiece to the winning effort in Jonathan Espinoza, Deion Keyes, Ke’Adrian Brown, Nehemiah Brown and Jordan Woods. Brown also had nine boards.
And, Ocean Springs fell to Presbyterian Christian of Hattiesburg in the second game of the day 52-44.
Christian Cowan and Chip Claunch each tallied 12 points apiece in the loss for the Greyhounds.
In the opening game of the event, Northeast Lauderdale knocked off Pass Christian 51-40.
