Prep Football: After two years and two days, Dubose is out as Biloxi head coach

BILOXI — After just two years and two days leading the Indians, Biloxi head football coach Jamey Dubose has stepped down.
Dubose confirmed to SouthMiss6 Sports Monday night that he was leaving the program immediately. The move came after rumors swirled for the past month that he may be moving on after the season came to an end for Biloxi in the opening round of the state playoffs for the fourth straight season as well as the fifth time in the past six years.

Dubose leaves the Indians after going just 3-8 this past season overall, but BHS did qualify for the Class 7A South State playoffs as the fourth and final seed in Region 4-7A.
The reward for that was a trip to Oak Grove that resulted in a 55-20 loss that would turn out to be Dubose’s final game with the Indians.
He ended up 8-14 in two seasons at BHS.
Dubose’s first Biloxi team went 5-5 in the regular season and earned the third seed in the region which resulted in a trip to, you guessed it, Oak Grove and an ensuing 34-20 loss to the Warriors that ended Dubose’s initial campaign in Mississippi at 5-6 overall.

Prior to coming to Mississippi, Dubose won three state championships at two different schools in Alabama over the past 15 years. He crossed the state line to Biloxi from Orange Beach High School, where he spent two seasons.
He resigned from that post saying that he planned to retire.
DuBose went 9-11 in two seasons with the Makos, including an 8-3 record and a playoff berth in 2022 but the team fell to 1-8 in his last season when OBHS only returned three starters from the prior season.
He led Prattville to a pair of state titles as head coach in both 2008 and 2011, and he guided Central-Phenix City to the 2018 Class 7A state title. He also had a brief stint as an assistant coach at Alma Bryant some years back.

Biloxi is now looking for its 13th head football coach in the past 44 years, since a state-wide playoff system was implemented in the state of Mississippi.

Dubose’s successor will become the fifth Indian mentor in the past 15 years.
