HATTIESBURG — D’Iberville’s Caleb Triplett gets the “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” this week.
Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Triplett was one of the lone bright spots for Team Mississippi over the weekend in the prestigious Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Football Classic. Alabama overcame a 3-0 deficit after the first frame and scored 27 unanswered points en route to an easy 40-10 win over Mississippi here at M.M. Roberts on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi Saturday afternoon.

Triplett, the Warrior senior standout linebacker, helped stake Mississippi to that early lead as he forced a fumble and recovered it for Mississippi at the Alabama 35-yard line with 8:14 left in first quarter, and that resulted in a 30-yard field goal by Will Uselton of Hernando for Mississippi’s only lead all day at the 4:48 mark.
Then, later in the first half, with Mississippi down 14-3 after Alabama had a long scoring run called back by a penalty, Triplett showed up again and blocked a punt to give Mississippi the ball at the Alabama 21-yard line with 2:49 left before halftime.
However, Mississippi couldn’t capitalize on the turnover and turned the ball over on downs at the Alabama 32-yard line.

Despite the offensive ineptitude by Mississippi, Triplett was Mississippi’s best player in the first half. And, for his efforts in his final high school game ever, Triplett was named the Most Valuable Player for Team Mississippi in the annual affair.
