ST. MARTIN — The St. Martin boys basketball team is off to one of their better starts in league play in the past decade.
The home-standing Yellow Jackets, under the direction of veteran head coach Charlie Pavlus, knocked off previously unbeaten West Harrison Thursday night.
Home-standing St. Martin handed the Hurricanes their first loss of the season with a 53-44 upset in Region 4-7A play in the final action for both teams before the Christmas break. The win moves the Yellow Jackets to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in the region race, while West Harrison drops to 13-1 overall and 2-1 in the league also.

St. Martin got 15 points from guard R.J. Keys in the win, and he also had five rebounds. Markel Simmons added 12 points and eight boards, while Tyson Walker chipped in nine points for Pavlus and his squad.
Kam Bolden had a game-high 21 points for the Hurricanes, while JaMarcus McCaleb added 11 points.

St. Martin opened region play with a close 59-52 loss to Biloxi in overtime last week, but bounced back from that outing and stuffed Harrison Central on the road 65-49.
Keys poured in a career-high 30 points in that win, while the Gulfport transfer Simmons chipped in 12 points, four assists and five steals and George Norman added eight points and eight rebounds.
