Each week until the first weekend in March at the overall state tournament in Jackson, SouthMiss6 Sports will be the place to be to keep up with the most complete and comprehensive info about all things prep basketball featuring stories and photos in the “Southern Six” counties of the state of Mississippi.

Each week we will take a look at at least five players and five games to keep an eye on as well as release our weekly “Super 7 in the Southern 6 Poll”.

Starting 5 in the “Southern 6

This week’s “Starting 5 in the Southern 6” players list is comprised of some of the area standouts that came up big for their respective teams so far this season.

1.  Jayla Carriere, Biloxi — In a “Battle of Titans” Monday night Carrire tallied a game-high 17 points to help Biloxi knock off visiting Laurel 43-34 Monday night.
2. Blake Nettles, Pascagoula — The standout senior Dandy Dozen guard for the Panthers poured in a game-high 23 points as Pascagoula fell to Ridgeland Monday after 76-60 in the Treyy Christmas Tournament.
3. Sydnei Barber, West Harrison — Barber registered a game-high 17 points to pace West Harrison to a 51-33 win on the road over St. Martin in Region 4-7A play Friday night.
4. Morris Robertson, Gulfport — Robertson combined for 36 points in two road Region 4-7A outings last week as the Admirals split games in Ocean Springs and Biloxi.
5. R.J. Keys, St. Martin — The senior point guard Keys posted a game-high 30 points in a 65-49 win over Harrison Central in Region 4-7A action and then followed that up with 15 points in a 53-44 league win over West Harrison.

This Week’s Games:

1. Moss Point vs. Oak Grove (girls) — Friday in the Hattiesburg Christmas Tournament.
2. Gulfport vs. Brandon (boys)— Friday in the Hattiesburg Christmas Tournament.
3. Moss Point vs. Jefferson Davis County (boys) — Friday in the Hattiesburg Christmas Tournament.
4. Harrison Central vs. Mobile (Ala.) Baker (boys) — Saturday in The Spring Hill (Mobile, Ala.) Christmas Tournament.
5. Bay High at Poplarville (boys) — Saturday at Pearl River Community College.
