PASCAGOULA — Resurrection will have a new head football coach next season.
Well, kind of.
Eric Denmark confirmed to SouthMiss6 Sports Friday that he is stepping down as head coach of the Eagles after four seasons at the helm of the RCS squad. Former RCS head coach Scott Sisson is stepping back into the role as head coach after serving as Denmark’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator over the past few years, and Denmark will move back into his role as an assistant in which he spent his first decade as before being elevated into the top spot.

“I just feel it’s the best decision for the school, the football team and myself at this point,” Denmark said Friday afternoon. “I still want to be there for Scott and the kids but my role in the church has grown as well and much of my responsibility lies there now.”
Denmark was recently ordained Catholic Deacon in the holy church after completing Diaconal school. He maintained his head coaching post throughout the process.
“This has been on my mind (stepping down) for a while now, and I thought this was the right time to step back and let Scott take over and be there as much as I can for him and support the team the best I can,” Denmark added.
Sisson returns as RCS head coach after a seven year absence. From 2013-2018, he led the Eagles to heights never seen before or since his arrival as head coach, including playing for the Class 1A state championship in 2015.
He returns after leading RCS to a 51-23 mark during those six seasons.

Sisson, who is on a family Christmas vacation in New York City this weekend, confirmed the change in leadership for the RCS football team by phone with SouthMiss6 Sports Friday afternoon.
Prior to arriving at RCS, Sisson had a 26-year coaching career that included a stint as an assistant on staff at Moss Point. He also had a 10-year run as a head coach at both East Central and Pascagoula. He is the only head football coach in Jackson County history to lead three different football teams to the state playoffs.
Denmark departs after going 19-23 overall since the 2022 season, including a 1-8 mark this year in a season that was filled with inexperience, injuries and a personnel issue for the most part that hampered on-field results.
He will now head into his 15th season with the RCS program back in his familiar role as the top assistant coach.
