It was a pretty good week for the D’Iberville girls basketball team.
After starting the season off struggling at 1-9 overall, the Lady Warriors picked up wins in two out of three outings over the past five days to wrap up 20205 and tip off 2026 in successful fashion.
D’Iberville slipped past visiting Pascagoula Friday night 36-33 to move to 3-10 overall. The Lady Warriors got eight points apiece from Jaymie Guice, Na’Kia Dickson and Samaria Hardy in the balanced scoring attack.
Pascagoula’s Rylee Hilliard also had eight points to pace the Lady Panthers.
Prior to that, DHS won one and lost one in the Bay High Holiday Classic on Monday and Tuesday in the Wilmer Seymour Tigerdome.

The Lady Warriors defeated Gautier 33-26 in the Monday match-up, but they lost 45-28 to a soaring Bay High team that won its fourth in a row in the match-up on Tuesday.
The young DHS team starts three freshmen, a sophomore and a senior. So, they are in a rebuilding year, and the wins this week were a much-needed confidence-builder.
“We’re trying to figure out where we fit and what our job is for the team,” said coach Robin Jeffries. “We kind of pulled it together right here during the break. I thought we played well together for the first time.
“We played players in new positions,” said Jeffries. “We’re learning how to play with each other, and we clicked together more than we have in the past. So, we’re really just looking to try to keep working with each other and try to build something brand new.”

The Lady Warriors got eight points from Guice in the win over Gautier, including a pair of 3-pointers in the second stanza, and Akayiah Lett had seven points.
The Lady Gators got 10 points from Alexis Rogers in the loss.
In the loss to Bay High, DHS got eight points from Lett.
“We start three freshmen and the first player off the bench is a sophomore,” Jeffries added. “We have just two seniors on the team. This year, it has been about perfecting small things that help build a foundation. We are improving but being so young it takes time to see monumental growth. If this group stays together, they have a chance to be very successful as they mature in the program.”
