HATTIESBURG — St. Martin’s R.J. Keys gets the “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” this week.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

The junior point guard Keys was the catalyst for the Yellow Jackets as they won two out of three games at the annual Northwest Florida Shootout at Choctawachee High in Pensacola, Fla., this week to capture the tourney title.

Key combined for 71 points in the three games in three days event. And for his work he was named as Most Valuable Player for the tourney.

St. Martin ended the action Wednesday afternoon with a close 48-45 win over Helena (Ala.) High. Keys poured in 24 points, thanks in part to four 3-pointers, to lead the Yellow Jackets to the win.

On Tuesday, St. Martin defeated the host Choctawhatchee team 47-37. Keys again led the winning attack with a game-high 22 points and he grabbed five rebounds.

St. Martin’s only close in the three day annual affair came on Monday, St. as Navarre (Fla.) High nipped the Yellow Jackets 60-58.

Keys tipped off the tourney in fine form as he tallied 25 points to lead the way.

St. Martin and Keys are back in Region 4-7A play tuesday night, as the Yellow Jackets face arch-rival D’Iberville on the road.
