PASCAGOULA — A pair of prep basketball teams that made it all the way to the “Big House” for the Final Four in each of their respective classifications last season faced off at the annual Panther Classic here Saturday afternoon.

And South Jones beat Biloxi 54-46 in the battle as the Indians and Braves set their sights on return engagements at the Mississippi Coliseum this year.

Tristan Hawthorne of South Jones registered 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, including 10 in the third period when the Braves took control, as SJHS moved to 11-5 with their fifth win in the past six outings. The Indians fell to 10-5 overall with the loss,

Braves guard Anquan jackson scored seven points in the first half, as South Jones took a slight 26-23 advantage heading into halftime.

Jackson added nine points to complement Hawthorne’s 21 points in the winning attack.

Biloxi got 19 points from Carnellus Lenard, including a pair of 3-pointers and eight of those points in the third frame to help keep the Indians stay within striking distance. Kentrell Beasley chipped in 11 points for BHS.
