PASCAGOULA — A pair of “Southern Six” boys basketball squads with their sights set on making some noise in the upcoming state playoffs face off Saturday night.

And that makes the St. Stanislaus vs. West Harrison game this week’s “Vertical Raise Game of the Week” for SouthMiss6 Sports.

Entering Friday night, the Hurricanes were 16-1 overall, while the Rock-A-Chaws sit at 15-2. This one-off meeting between the two teams has become an annuall affair over the past seven seasons, and continues this year despite the fact that West Harrison moved up to Class 7A this season.

In fact, this will mark the third game for the Class 3A Rocks against a Class 7A foe in the past two weeks and fifth this season. St. Stanislaus is coming off a second place finish in the annual Admiral Holiday Classic last week as well as a 48-40 road win in Region 8-3A play over Presbyterian Christian Tuesday in Hattiesburg.

The Hurricanes face D’iberville in Region 4-7A Friday night before heading to Bay St. Louis to face the Rocks Saturday afternoon.

West Harrrison is coming off a 60-50 win Tuesday in league play over Harrison Central. Ja’Marcus McCaleb scored 13 points and had five steals and six assists to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Hurricanes, while Kam Bolden added 11 points, six rebounds and seven assists and Logan Robisnon also had 11 points. Deandre Weston chipped in 10 points to the winning effort as well.

Jonathan Espinoza posted a double-double for the Red Rebels with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Nehemiah Brown added 12 points and five assists.
