Prep Basketball: Hurricanes take down Rock-A-Chaws 51-37 Saturday

GULFPORT — On Saturday, for the second straight week, Class 3A power St. Stanislaus took on a strong Class 7A opponent from the “Southern Six”. And, unfortunately for the Rock-A-Chaws, the results were the same for the second consecutive week as well. Home-standing West Harrison moved to an impressive 18-1 overall after dispatching SSC 51-37. With the loss, the Rocks fall to 15-3 on the year.

Senior stalwart guard Kameron Bolden tallied a game-high 18 points to West Harrison to lead the way to the win Saturday, while Logan Robinson chipped in 10 points to the winning cause. Ja’Marcus McCaleb added eight points for the Hurricanes, as did Deandre Weston.
St. Stanislaus got 17 points from Senior standout Max Baria, a 6-foot-8 Dandy Dozen product, and in fact he registered nine of those points in the first period as the Rocks got out to an early 17-15 advantage before the home team out-scored SSC 16-0 in the second stanza to take complete control of the game.

The Hurricanes were coming off of a close 50-47 Region 4-7A overtime win over D’Iberville Friday night. Both Hayden Boggs and Ja’Marcus McCaleb each hit a key basket in the extra session for West Harrison, as the ‘Canes out-scored DHS 8-5 in OT to pull out the win after the two teams were knotted up at 42-42 after regulation. Logan Robinson and McCaleb each had 10 points apiece to led West Harrison in the game, while Kameron Bolden added nine points. Stephon Susczyk tallied a game-high 17 points for DHS, while big man Jeremiah Huntley enjoyed his second straight big outing with 15 points for the Warriors. Freshman Jayden Mason added nine points all of which came on a trio of 3-pointers.
