Prep Basketball: Lady Hawks record 30th straight Region 4-6A win, thumping PRC Friday night

CARRIERE — The overall record for the Hancock girls basketball team may not be as flashy at this point in the season has it has been the past three seasons.
However, as far as region play goes the mark for the Lady Hawks is just as nice as it ever was over that stretch.
Visiting Hancock moved to 6-0 in Region 4-6A play with a 59-30 thumping of Pearl River Central Friday night.

The win extended Hancock’s league win streak to 30 straight, a program record, and the successful span dates back to December of 2023. Also, the Lady Hawks move to 13-8 overall with the win.
The visitors wasted no time in taking a lead they would never relinquish, as Long Beach transfer Paityn Langley dropped in eight first quarter points, including a 3-pointer, and Maylee Cuevas drained a pair of treys as well as Hancock led 21-6 heading into the second stanza.

The Lady Hawks basically wrapped up the win before halftime producing another 21-point outburst in the next quarter as both Langley and Lexie Ladner scored six points apiece and Cuevas added five points in the frame and Hancock went to halftime in complete control at 42-12 and never looked back.
Langley led the Lady Hawks with a game-high 16 points, while both Cuevas and Lexi Ladner added 11 points apiece to the winning effort and C. Ladner chipped in 10 points. Both Ladner’s nailed a pair of 3-pointers each in the win.
Marley Herring was sharp fro long range for PRC, as she finished with 13 points thanks in large part to a trio of treys. Caitlyn Cruz had eight points for the Lady Blue Devils, who fell to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the region race.
