PASCAGOULA — Both the Pascagoula and Gautier girls basketball teams are hoping to close out region 4-6A play over the next few weeks in successful fashion.
The Lady Panthers are just 4-14 overall, but more importantly all four wins have come in league play as PHS sits in the third spot at 4-2 behind unbeaten Hancock and second place Picayune in the region race.
Pascagoula heads to Carriere Tuesday night to face Pearl River Central in league play. The Lady Panthers beat PRC 47-35 last month.




In fact, Pascagoula has won two of its last three league outings, starting with a 42-32 win over Gautier as well as a -22 win over Long Beach Friday night.
The Lady Panthers pulled out the Gautier game in a decisive fourth quarter, out-scoring Gautier 12-4 down the stretch, thanks to six points from Iyonna Atkins.
Rylee Hillard paced PHS with 10 points, with eight of those coming in the first period. Atkins added eight points to the winning cause, and Audrey Patterson had seven points.
For the Lady Gators, Alexis Rogers scored 12 points while Victoria Moore had eight points and five steals and Zoey Griffin added five steals and five assists. Lauryn Powell ended up with six rebounds for Gautier also.




In the win over Long Beach, Pascagoula got Pascagoula got 14 points apiece from both Hilliard and Atkins, as well as well as 12 points from Ty’Mia Bell.
The Lady Gators, who are coming off of a 74-45 road loss to Picayune Friday night, will host Long Beach Tuesday night.
The Lady Bearcats are 4-19 overall and 0-6 in the region race after a loss to Pascagoula Friday night.
Pascagoula’s only loss in its last three games came at the hands of Picayune, which picked up a close 46-40 win Tuesday night over the home-standing Lady Panthers.




Both Rhyen Goss and Laikyn Moore scored 14 points apiece to pace Picayune to the win, while Devin Adkins added eight points. Goss actually recorded a double-double as she also had 11 rebounds, and Moore grabbed seven boards as well.
The Lady Tide host league-leading Hancock Tuesday night.
Pascagoula got a game-high 19 points from Ja’Katelyn Johnson in the losing effort, and Hilliard added eight points.
