CLINTON, Miss. — St. Stanislaus got a great game out of junior standout point guard Rafael Cohen in the fifth game of the prestigious “Rumble in the South” event against the defending Class 7A state champions Monday afternoon.
However, it still wasn’t enough for the Rock-A-Chaws to pull out a win.
Germantown defeated St. Stanislaus 66–54 in this annual affair here at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College. The loss drops the Class 3A rocks to 17-4 on the season, while the Class 7A Mavericks move to 14-6 with the win.

The contest marked the sixth and final outing of the season for SSC against a Class 7A foe. St. Stanislaus finishes that trek at an even 3-3.
The two teams battled on pretty even terms throughout the first half, as the Mavericks went into halftime up 27–26 thanks in large part to their own standout guard in Devin Moore.
Moore, a 6-foot-6 senior, scored 17 of his team-high 22 points in the first half to help the Mavericks earn that one-point intermission advantage.
Cohen tallied 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half, but Germantown was able to steadily stretch its lead out down the stretch.

In addition to Moore’s 22 points, he also had four steals. Michael Johnson posted 13 points and six rebounds in the winning effort, while 6-foot-6 senior forward Alfred Stokes finished with 10 points and three blocks and played well inside defensively.

Last season, Moore and the Mavericks went 29-5 overall and raced past rival Madison Central 69-52 to claim the Class 7A state championship at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson. It marked the first state title in school history for Germantown.

St. Stanislaus returns to region 8-3A play Tuesday night back at home in Bay St. Louis vs. Tylertown.
