Prep Basketball: PRC slips past Pascagoula in Region 4-6A girls action

PASCAGOULA — The Pearl River Central girls picked up a big Region 4-6A win in exciting fashion Tuesday night.

The Lady Blue Devils traveled to Pascagoula and headed back to Carriere with a 33-32 win in tow over the Lady Panthers. The decision moved PRC into sole possession of fourth place in the region race at 2-3, behind Pascagoula which dropped to 3-2 in the loop and sits in the third spot.

The win also helped PRC earn a measure of revenge over the Lady Panthers, which picked up a 47-35 win in Carriere last month to tip off region play.

The Lady Devils counted on the combo of Marley Herring and Caitlyn Cruz to pull out the close decision, as Herring scored 11 points and had six steals while Cruz had seven points, four rebounds, five assists and seven steals in the winning effort. Carly Spiers also had six points for PRC.

The Lady Devils out-scored the Lady Panthers 7-4 dxown the stretch in the fourth period to pull out the win, including a key 3-pointer from Herring.

Pascagoula got nine points from Rylee Hilliard and eight points from Iyonna Atkins in the loss.

PRC is now 8-9 overall, while Pascagoula is 4-15.
